Life with two kids under two...

... is pretty great! Dragonfly is thriving and, at three weeks and a few days old, has already gained a pound plus. He is almost fitting into 3-6 month clothes and doesn't fit newborn shoes, since his hands and feet are really long. He is so precious and just fits into our family well.

Love Bug is a good big sister. She wants to hold him any chance she gets and tries to help us with him all the time. The only thing that drives me nuts is that she likes to close the snaps on his swing and car seat once I take him out. So, then when I want to put him back, I have to open the snaps with one hand, balancing him in the other!

A few early impressions about having two-

1. I've heard people say that their second child was easier, but that's just unfair to us first-borns (notice I said "us"). It's not that younger children are easy-going, it's just that us parents are better the second time around! Changing a diaper is quicker- but generally everything in the baby care category is much simpler when you've done it before. Breastfeeding is also going so well this time. It went well with Love Bug, but I had to ask a million questions and get a little help to get there. I'm much more relaxed and don't fret over every little thing this time. In fact, someone in our family had pink eye and he already got it. With Love Bug it would've sent me over the edge, but this time, I'm calmly taking care of it.

2. I'm already doing a lot and feeling pretty normal. We've been out shopping, gone to Love Bug's music and gym classes, and she got her hair cut for the first time a week ago. I'm really trying to make tons of time for Love Bug, and I've found that in the process, my recovery has been much quicker. I gained 40 pounds during the pregnancy and have already lost 35... but once I lose these next five, I really want to lose another 25 to get back to a weight way before Love Bug when I was healthier. I was a size 8, which may sound big to some of you, but that's pretty good for me.

3. The only sad thing is that I've found that my "blog" time is non-existant, hence no posts for three weeks. I used to post either in the morning before Love Bug got up. Now my morning is when I cuddle Dragonfly, since he spends some time on his tummy mat or in his activity chair once Love Bug is up. I can't really blog late at night, after Love Bug is in bed, since B and I use that time just for us. We cuddle up with a movie or we talk, read, debate, or sometimes just watch TV, since we rarely watch when Love Bug is up... it's the time of the day that keeps us in sync as a couple, and not just as parents of the same children.

So, I guess I'm trying to say that posts will be slow for awhile, and so will commenting. I see so many Mom bloggers who do so well with two or more kids, but I just don't feel like I can do it right now. We see how permanant this is as Dragonfly grows. B was always supportive of my blog as an outlet, but we agreed that it would only happen on the side of our regular life. So we'll see where this fits in as we go.

I hope to post soon though, since I got some great pictures of the kids at a Halloween party tonight and will have even more after Love Bug's 2nd birthday party next weekend! I hope you all are having a wonderful fall- you know it's my favorite!

Our new little man...

People asked if I was having twins, and now we know why... one little boy at a whopping 11 lbs!

Dragonfly in the warmer! We got to breastfeed just after he was born and I was just in recovery waiting for my legs to wake up a little more.

My favorite picture... my Mom (Nana) with both of her grandkids. She looks so happy!

Our family. I look terrible, but I just had major surgery. I'll post more in a few days about the experience of having two and how things went with the surgery, but tonight I'm tired and need to unpack! Hope you have a great week.

We welcomed...

Well, everyone, the day has come. Our newest addition, "Dragonfly" arrvied on Wednesday, October 1st, at 8:10 am. In the days leading up to her delivery, Abbey received many comments and stares at her very large belly. People would ask her if she was having twins. Others would just gape in awe.

Well, it all makes sense now. Dragonfly was born weighing a whopping 11 lbs even and measures 21.5 inches. He's a big boy and almost already out of the newborn diapers. He's very happy and very hungry. Mom and Baby are both doing well.

Please leave comments and I'll be sure to pass them on to A. More news and pictures to come soon.

Have a wonderful day!
B (Abbey's husband)
